The biggest event in CMU history didn’t come without a price. The expenses for the Macklemore concert totalled almost $84,000. Of that money, $45,000 paid for the talent, $22,000 paid for sound, $4,500 paid for security and the rest covered other miscellaneous costs including tents and fencing.

“Through the biennial budget, we planned for one concert a year,” Student Life Director Mitch Karstens said.

The $80,000 approved for this school year paid for the 3OH!3 concert last semster, but Student Life was able to come up with enough money to make it happen again. This money came from funds made from the 3OH!3 concert, along with a donation from the President’s Office and contributions from RHA.

Having both a spring and fall concert is something that looks to be in CMU’s future. Students can expect to see a larger concert during the fall semester and a somewhat smaller one in the spring.

“Our plan is to put on a concert over Labor Day weekend, and any money we make, we will use to do a smaller concert in the spring time,” Karstens said.

Macklemore yielded $35,000 in ticket sales, which will be appropriated back into accounts from which the money came. For the future, there has been an account set up for all money made to be put into, so a concert in the spring will help pay for a concert in the fall.

There has not been a decision made yet as to who will headline the next concert. Karstens is still accepting student ideas for the musical act and can be reached at mkarstens@coloradomesa.edu.
