Red cowboy boots. Long, faux fur jackets. Tiaras, pink boas, red polka dot baseball caps and straw hats. Floral suit-jackets, neon-green hot pants, overalls and Hawai’ian shorts. Fairy wands, feathered masquerade masks and fake mustaches.

These items, as well as an excess of kindergarten teacher-style vests, are what most likely overwhelmed your vision if you walked into Mav Fest’s Thrift Shop Party Thursday night.

Held in the University Center Ballroom with live music by DJ Strangefellow, the costume party was in celebration of the song, “Thrift Shop,” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, who performed a sold-out concert on the CMU campus Saturday night as part of this spring’s Mav Fest.

Members of Kappa Sigma were also present, though not so colorfully clothed. The fraternity was collecting clothing donations for Homeward Bound, a local homeless shelter, as well as the Wounded Warrior Project.

The PR Club set up shop near the dance floor. Against a thrifty looking backdrop, attendees of the Thrift Shop Party were able to have their pictures taken by members of PR Club, who later posted the photos on their Facebook page.

As an added bonus, the winner of the costume contest was given a meet and greet ticket for the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis concert, and the top three were given gift cards to Goodwill.

Cheyenne Paningsoro was the winner with her blue exercise pants and white eagle jacket.
