ASG Update: Students reimbursed for hotel change

ASG approved $1,050 to be given to the six Sports Management Club students that attended the Super Bowl in February. The students originally did not ask ASG for money to attend the trip. Instead, they paid for the funds completely out of pocket. But upon checking into their hotel in New Orleans, they realized the rooms that had been reserved by the university travel agent were sub-par.

“It was a scary to place to walk into,” Sports Management Director Dr. Richard Bell said. “Then, when we got the rooms, there was blood on the carpet and things like that.”

The students immediately got a refund and switched to a nicer hotel. The Best Western that they chose was a thousand dollars more expensive for the week. The funds they received was to reimburse the students for this extra cost.

The Montrose campus is putting on its first ever Socialpalooza with help from ASG. The senate approved bill 84-12, which allocated $1057.50 to pay for catering at the event.

“We expect donations to exceed the value of $1,500 in order to provide the remaining necessities needed for this event,” bill 12-84 stated. “Donations to be expected include: beverages, desserts, prizes, entertainment and volunteers.”

The senate also approved changes made by PAC to its constitution. The major changes included adding two more positions to the council and increasing each of their pay. The pay raises were also during the budgeting process early last semester.
