Students gathered in the game room Thursday and Friday to get in on the gaming action.

“Whoever wins this match right now gets this game,” PlayStation rep Brandon Smith said while holding up a new copy of “Far Cry 3.”

Smith was talking to four student gamers just after they picked characters and began a four-player brawl.

“What, no way?” one of them said as the four postured to their premium playing position.

Ethan Baier and Chris Torrentewent were the first out of the battle, leaving Brandon Valdez and Akekasith Kesavadhana to fight it out, one-on-one.

“We were both playing the same character,” Valdez said.

“But I’m the alpha male,” Kesavadhana interjected.

Kesavadhana barely squeezed out the win over Valdez.

“Big Daddy, that’s just me,” Kesavadhana said.

Big Daddy is the burly character from the BioShock series that the two were playing as in their “PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale”. The  four were playing in the game room last Thursday during a two-day Sony PlayStation exhibit. CMU was part of a 40-school tour that encompassed campuses across the nation.

“They [PlayStation] wanted to give college kids a break from school,” Smith said. “It’s free games, we got exclusive deals for students and we do daily tournaments. We literally make it rain.”

The Sony crew came with boxes full of gear to give away ranging from t-shirts and hats to games and consoles, all of which was given away at random. Some items were just given to those participating and other prizes were given at random to game winners.

The random aspect definitely kept gamers on their toes.

“I’m playing with my good character from now on,” Valdez said. “I don’t want to get caught again.”
