Meet Your Senators: Connor Boe

9-16ASGBio1SH

Newly-appointed ASG senator Connor Boe is a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., majoring in political science. Although he is currently enrolled in CMU as an undergrad, Boe had the opportunity to become a graduate-level senator.

“They had an opening and needed someone to fill it,” Boe said. “I have aspirations of going to graduate school and the same mentality as a graduate senator would have.”

Before settling on political science as a major, Boe had planned on going into the medical field when he was in high school but was influenced by one of his teachers.

“She was very active in California politics and taught my American Politics class,” Boe said. “She laid out that people aren’t very interested in their government anymore, and it’s become a problem.”

Although Boe has never been out of the country, he has had the chance to travel in and around the U.S. He also spent time at the Colorado State Capitol in Denver doing work during election time.

Some of Boe’s favorite places are Lake Powell and Moab in Utah, and he is a fan of outdoor activities, including snowboarding.

“I’m definitely an outdoor person, but I haven’t done anything too extreme,” Boe said. “I love snowboarding. It’s kind of a bummer that the season’s over. I do a lot of hiking, and when I get the chance, I go cliff jumping.”

Other than wanting to go skydiving, Boe would like to do a lot of traveling in the future.

“The one that really gets me is the Middle East,” Boe said. “Every class I’ve taken, I’ve found that’s pretty much where the first signs of civilization were found.”

Boe is looking to stay in ASG next year as an at-large senator or social and behavioral sciences senator.

“I know a lot more that’s going on in my department, but at-large would also be great because I have a good constituency base,” Boe said.

The Littleton native is also looking into internships that fit his political science major.

“I’ve actually applied for Scott Tipton’s office and Mike Kauffman’s office,” Boe said. “Pretty much what you have to do is answer constituency mail. You’ve got to read it and delegate what they’d say back. You also answer phones and come up with campaign ideas and the cheapest ways to do it.”

After graduating from CMU, Boe plans to go to law school to study international law and then work toward a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies. Ultimately, he would like to end up working for the government tracking and catching terrorists.
