ASG update: Campaign season begins

It is election season again, and the 28 candidates have officially begun campaigning. The campaigns kicked off on Friday with the annual candidate meeting and continue for the next two weeks. On Wednesday at 2 p.m. on the Elm Quad, campaigning takes to full swing with the campaign bash. The bash will feature local band, The Shift, food and candidate forums. Starting at 4 p.m., senate positions will be allotted one-minute spots to introduce themselves, and the president and vice president candidates will be given two minute time spots around 4:30 to campaign. The candidates are Ariel Diamond and Ashley Pulido vs. Brian Watson and Cassie Heykoop.

ASG approved $3,000 out of its operating budget Wednesday night to pay for the bash.

ASG also passed a bill to remove the secretary position and give their duties to the communications manager and approved the use of $500 to give end-of-year gifts to its members.

The rodeo team was also at the meeting, requesting money to assist with the cost of their first home rodeo at Mesa County Fairgrounds this weekend. The bill gave the team $2,000 to get them to the necessary $16,000 it took to put on the rodeo.
