Two unidentified men who were allegedly involved in a shooting Sunday morning were taken from a home on the 700 block of Glenwood Avenue for questioning. After a 911 call from someone who said two shots were fired in an alley nearby, the Grand Junction Police Department SWAT team surrounded a house and attempted to get the two men to come outside for several hours.

“The SWAT team was outside since five this morning,” sophomore Essen Kate Pacpaco said. “I had to work at nine, and I noticed the police were parked right outside our driveway, and one of the members of the swat team was hiding behind my roommate’s car, pointing his gun at our neighbor’s house.”

Residents living within two blocks of the house were asked to stay inside and lock their windows while the SWAT team was on the scene.

“They kept repeating for someone to get out of the house,” Pacpaco said. “My sister and I had to cancel work because we couldn’t step outside. The police who were posted in front of our drive did not want any of us to be outside. We were stuck inside our house until 2 p.m.”

The incident is still under investigation, but the GJPD believes the suspect returned to a party on Bunting Ave. after being asked to leave earlier in the night. The suspect came back armed and accompanied by one other person. Conflict arose in a nearby alley, and one man was hit in the face with the butt of a gun. When the victim began to leave, two shots were fired. No one was hit.

“I did not notice the shots fired,” Pacpaco said. “My roommate did, however, and he says that it happened at 3-4 a.m. this morning in the alley behind the house.”

Around noon, one man voluntarily came out of the house and was shortly followed by the other man.

“They immediately took him to the alleyway into the swat teams vehicle,” Pacpaco said. “They kept waiting to see if more people were in the house. At about 1:30 p.m., they cleared our driveway and the street, letting people pass through.”

Both men were detained for further questioning, and no charges have been filed.
