Home improvements: UC continues upkeep

The CMU campus is undergoing a little bit of nip and tuck. From new buildings to library renovations, CMU continues growing. Even buildings like the University Center have had constant repairs to upkeep the university’s figure.

“We’ll be continuing to make improvements to the University Center,” Vice President of Student Services John Marshall said. “I point to what we have done over Christmas break, where we brought in new lighting and we brought in new artwork in the East-West corridor.”

Some minor changes students may have observed are changes in artwork and rearranging and repurposing of student services.

“It is pretty low profile, but adds a nice improvement to it,” Marshall said. “We brought in a nice pedestal for the art gallery to display some more work and draw more people in. We brought in a stage so people can have coffee and listen to students play guitar and have things like that going on in there.”

CMU students who have noticed the small changes, like Sabrina Wiseman and Alex Murillo, responded positively.

“The changes the university is making are beneficial to the continued growth we experience each year,” Murillo said. “Many visitors we have had let us know we have a very beautiful campus in comparison to other schools, and I think this sets us apart from other schools.”

Some of the changes in the University Center serve aesthetic purposes, while others serve specific uses. This upcoming spring break, there will be some minor improvements to enhance the workability of the space. Student Services is taking the opportunity to re-enforce some of the walls in the University Center service corridors.

“Repairs and renovations help achieve goals, whether it’s providing a great space to learn in or just making the environment more welcoming,” Wiseman said.
