Editorial: CMU Confessions tell it all

The newest addition to Facebook is the Colorado Mesa University Confessions page. A student can go to the page and confess anything they want that’s CMU related, completely anonymously. Not even the admisistrator can see who is posting these stories. With almost 1,000 likes in the page’s first few days, it has become a hit in the Maverick community. So, what makes it so special?

The administrator, whoever it is, is very good and very smart at what he or she does. They have laid out some basic ground rules that makes it more fun for everyone involved. It’s very clear that they know what they are doing and have become quite successful in it.

The page is full of interesting, crazy and funny stories that bring everyone to the page to laugh and share their thoughts. It seems almost unreal that a lot of those confessions really happen around here. It’s too bad that some students use the page to confess the trouble they have caused many people instead of a good, funny story, but we suppose that’s the point of an anonymous confessions page.

The anonymous factor is what brings the whole page together. The mystery adds a lot of fun and interest to its fans. It makes one wonder who could do something so embarassing at a party or who is the one who has a huge crush on the volleyball star. All a page fan can do is guess and laugh at others’ expense.

We can only hope that no one admits to a violent crime or say they want to inflict self-harm. And if there ever is such a case, let’s hope that somehow the police or someone of authority can track down the confesser and fix the problem.

The confessions page is a big hit and, whomever the admin is know what they are doing. The administrator’s message is something that we can all agree on: let’s keep the page fun and entertaining for everyone.
