ASG Update

The Biology Club presented two bills on Wednesday night to gain funding for the Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society Conference coming up in April. Less than a month ago, the club was informed that the conference could no longer be held at the Air Force Academy, and that CMU was the only option.

“This is an undergraduate research competition that schools from around the state and a few other states participate in,” Biology Club President Sarah Wood said.

The bill to assist with costs of putting on the event was moved to conference committee since the club is possibly going to incur more costs for the conference than was stated in the bill. They were, however, given $890 in a separate bill for CMU students to participate. The conference will be April 12-13.

The Nordic Ski Team is sending nine members to the Rocky Mountain regional competition next week and was given $6,067.40 to assist with costs.

ASG was approved for $800 in funding through two separate bills. One bill is for ASG members to attend the Phi Beta Lambda Distinguished Executive Panel Dinner next Friday. The other is to fund travel expenses for ASG members to travel to Montrose on Wednesday for the weekly general assembly meeting. One meeting each semester is held at the Montrose campus to better represent it.

Another empty seat was filled as junior engineering student,, Jack Bryan,, was voted in as Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics Senator. There are three senator positions left to fill.

ASG President Telbe Storbeck commended the senators at the end of the meeting for being conscious with the budget this semester.

“The health right now of SCRF [Student Control Resource Fund] is looking very good, especially for this semester,” Storbeck said. “I would have actually thought that it might be a little bit down farther than that at this point.”

SCRF is a sort of reserve fund designed to fund any student activities that were not allocated for during initial budgeting. After the signing of last week’s bills, the SCRF balance will be $58,196.87.
