ASG Update: Funds approved for student orgs

ASG approved funding for three different bills totaling $11,269 on Wednesday night.

The CMU Criminal Justice Association was given $3,600 for four students to attend the 50th annual Academy of Criminal Justice Science meeting in Dallas. While there, students will participate in discussions, view presentations and take part in an employment exchange.

The Transportion fund allocated $1,200 to enable 10 new one-way routes per week to travel between the Bishop and main campus.

President Telbe Storbeck signed an executive order early last month to enable these routes until ASG could properly resolve the matter.

“These are routes that people had been asking about last semester,” Storbeck said.

The campus radio station, KMSA, received the $6,469 of the allocated money to upgrade two pieces of equipment in that station’s on-air studio. Nearly $3,000 went to purchasing a new FCC mandated encoder. The encoder will replace the outdated version currently in use. The rest of the money was to purchase a production board, which the station will use in the on-air studio until enough money is acquired to purchase the desired on-air board.

Another bill totaling $2,184 to purchase gym memberships for Montrose students was not approved.

ASG also added some new faces on Wednesday night as Allison Combs was approved for the secretary position and Amanda Stahlke was approved for a Senator position. Both positions had been vacated last semester.

The KMSA bill has been vetoed by President Storbeck . It will come out of committee tonight and we will know the fate of it. This is all despite the fact that KMSA has been operating with sub-standard equipment for years, and the total amount of the board that we wish to purchase with the funds granted in this bill amounts to less than the bill that was passed for the Criminal Justice Association. KMSA has an active roster of 50+ students working within us, all of whom would benefit from this piece of equipment we are asking for. The CJA bill affects 4 students. Now, I am unsure if President Storbeck vetoed that bill as well, and if he did, at least he is being even handed with his pen. If not, then there is something wrong with this entire picture.
