Last week, the Psychology Club hosted a silent auction to raise funds to attend the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association, a psychology research conference in Denver.

Matt Lescroart, a senior studying Counseling Psychology, helped out with the event.

“We’ve basically been doing these every couple of years, and we decided, ‘Why ruin it?’” Lescroart said. “We get a lot of money from it and it works out pretty well every year.”

Some items that were auctioned off include baked goods, yoga lessons, other physical fitness lessons, a pizza party, and tutoring.

“We pretty much auction off whatever we can,” Lescroart said. “whether it’s food or people putting in labor or something like that. We have a lot of different stuff on it this year.”

The money that is raised goes to the Psychology club so they can afford to put on more fundraising events and attend conferences.

“[The Rocky Mountain Psychological Association] is a huge research conference with a lot of schools from the Rocky Mountain area,” Lescroart said.

The next RMSA conference is in April of 2013.

Although the auction started off slow, the most bids took place Thursday. Final bids were placed Thursday around noon.

“We don’t usually see a huge gathering of people to do it until Thursday right before the deadline because a lot of people like to snag the bids,” Lescroart said.

The psychology club is open to all students interested in psychology, particularly psychology majors.

“We do a lot of community service to get publicity for the psychology program at CMU,” Lescroart said. “We also do a lot to bring in information for possible volunteer work and also a lot with future prospects for what we want to do in the psychology field.”

The Psychology club meets every other Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Houston Hall. For more information, Lescroart encourages students to visit their Facebook page.

“Find us at Colorado Mesa University Psychology Club on Facebook,” Lescroart said.
