Meet Your Senators: Brian Casaus

Brian Casaus has a desire to reach out to his community. He has been involved with ASG for six years, works with Mesa Catholic Campus Ministry, belongs to the Newman club, a catholic club found on college campuses around the United States, and helps out wherever he can.

In fact, Casaus’ reason for getting involved in ASG in the first place was to see a change on the Montrose campus.

“Originally, I was part of the Montrose campus, and I noticed that we had a lot of student fees, and basically, we didn’t really get a chance to take advantage of them,” Casaus said. “When I moved to the GJ campus, I thought, ‘Well, maybe I should join ASG and speak on behalf of the Montrose campus.’”

Casaus filled the position of Montrose senator for two years before changing roles within ASG.

“Since I lived on campus, the next year I became campus representative,” Casaus said. He lived in Pinon Hall for several years and now lives in Orchard Avenue.

Now, Casaus has yet another job in ASG: the Fine and Performing Arts senator.

“And now, since I’m majoring in theatre, I’m the Fine and Performing Arts senator, which they didn’t have back then. It’s something new,” Casaus explained.

Outside of helping CMU, Casaus invests his time in other organizations as well.

“I’m an active member of the Newman club, or Mesa Catholic Campus Mass, as it’s now called,” Casaus said. He likes belonging to a club that volunteers often.

“I’m also a member of the Knights of Columbus, which is dedicated toward community service,” Casaus said. “I like helping out anywhere I can.”

Casaus also works as a DJ for KMAS radio on campus. He got involved with KMSA through Kyle Cooper, Casaus’ senior RA and general manager of KMSA at the time.

“When they were hiring for some DJs, I applied and got in,” Casaus said.

In the future, Casaus hopes to use his major in theatre to reach out to the community.

“I hope to become a children’s theatre director, or maybe continue my education and go to a theology school and become a minister or youth minister,” Casaus said.

Right now, though, he is keeping an open mind.

“I’m looking a lot toward the children’s theatre position, but if God [leads] me to take the road to priesthood, I’ll probably take that too,” Casaus explained.

With a new future looming, Casaus says he is “going to miss CMU. I’ve watched it grow from a college to a university.” But he is excited at possibilities in the future to serve his community and can’t wait to see where life takes him.
