PR Cub hosted its first annual Trick-or-Talent talent show in the University Center Thursday night. The talent included dancers, singers, comedians and magicians.

Thirteen acts performed in the nearly two-hour event in front of more than 70 people in the audience watching and cheering them on. A few acts, such as Kala Smith’s Zumba talent, got the audience involved by enticing them to dance to “Evacuate the Dancefloor” by Cascada.

“I was very impressed by the turnout and the talent,” PR Club Vice President Brittany Markert said. “CMU showed their support for all the contestants and I was pleased by their excitement.”

The charity event had a $1 admission fee. Event goers were asked to bring a canned food item for the local food bank.

“Instead of $2 admission like our Mr. and Mrs. CMU pageant [last fall], we decided to lower the cost and do a food drive for Thanksgiving coming up,” Markert said.

Six judges from various places throughout CMU, such as Mass Communication professors, the ASG president and the head of the business department, picked the winners for the event.

“We simply just went around campus and asked a variety of people to help as we had a variety of talent,” Markert said.

Ultimately, the judges decided on Antonio Hermosill as the first-place winner. Hermosill did a hip-hop dance routine that astonished the judges. Second place went to Briana Steinkirchner who sang “Maybe This Time” from the musical “Caberet,” and third place went to Kalinda Theobold and Chris Arroyo, who sang a duet comprised of several popular musical staples.

“I was not surprised on who [the judges] picked,” Markert said. “They’re all awesome talent, but Antonio showed something different that everyone loved.”
