ALC slams cancer

A combination of corny jokes, powerful slam poetry and skilled performances captivated audiences in Bookcliff Café Thursday.

The CMU club Another Level Collaboration held the Open Microphone Night to raise money for Colleagues Against Cancer, another club on campus that is determined to fight cancer.

“This is the first time we’ve had slam poetry,” ALC President Roy Varley said. “I don’t know very much about it, but it’s cool.”

The club is optimistic about future involvement with the growth that they have had since last semester and the large turnout Thursday. Anyone was allowed to perform for a dollar, and over thirty performers turned out.

“My goal is to get established student performers to play longer sets in the Black Box Theater,” Varley said. “It probably won’t be this semester, but early next semester.”
