Going into last weekend’s matchups, the men’s soccer team had dropped to 8-5-3 overall and 6-4-2 in RMAC play. They were 0-2-2 in their last four games with the playoffs looming.
Friday’s game at CSU-Pueblo resulted in another tie for the Mavs as the team was unable to hold onto a 1-0 lead grabbed in the 63rd minute off of a Tim Hofer goal. The Thunderwolves answered with a goal in the 81st minute to tie the game, and the defenses held for the 20 minutes of overtime to seal the tie.
The game on Sunday against Colorado Mines (11-4-2, 8-3-2 RMAC) was shaky from the start as the Orediggers’ Baski Baker scored his fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute to grab the lead. Alex Nass would add a goal in the 76th minute to give Mines a 2-0 lead, which they would hold on to for the win. Sunday’s game marked another loss for CMU, who has never beaten the Orediggers.
With the loss on Sunday wrapping up the regular season for the Mavericks (8-6-4, 6-5-3 RMAC), they will begin the RMAC Tournament on Wednesday on the road as a result of the winless weekend.
