Democrat club hosts debate

On Wednesday, the College Democrats club will host the Presidential Debate Watch Party from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the University Center Game Room.

“This is a non-partisan event, and all CMU students, faculty and employees are welcome to attend,” club President David Martinez said.

Martinez encourages students to watch the debates.

“This is one of the first opportunities for everyone to get to know where the candidates stand on important issues like the economy, healthcare, government and how to govern,” Martinez said.

Many students are first-time voters this year.

“Students can make an educated impression on their own instead of following their parent’s vote, which is usually the case for young adults,” Martinez said.

Martinez hopes many students come.

“We expect about 40 to 50 people to show up,” Martinez said.

The club will also be providing pizza and refreshments.

“The election is Nov. 6,” Martinez said. “This is an opportunity to educate yourself on the issues and get to know our presidential candidates.”

This is the first of three presidential debates. The topic of this debate is “Domestic Policy,” and is taking place in Denver. The debate will be moderated by Jim Lehrer of PBS’s “NewsHour.” Lehrer will select six questions, and candidates will each share their stance on the topic in two minutes.

The next debate will be on Oct. 11. Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan will debate foreign and domestic policy in Danville, Ky.

This will be a pathetic excuse for a debate… The CPD is rigged, and the whole thing is scripted… Plus, its pretty difficult to even see a huge difference between Obama and Romney… Myself and thousands of others will be boycotting the debates until they become FAIR debates, by letting in all viable candidates. Im glad that so many of you are buying into the charade… What will it take for you all to WAKE UP????
