CMU receives donation: Nursing program adopts new name

Last week the Health Sciences Department unveiled the signs for their newly-named nursing program, The Moss School of Nursing. The school was named in honor of John and Angie Moss who recently made a generous donation to the program.

“The donations will primarily be used for scholarships in the nursing department,” Director of Media Relations Dana Nunn said. “It will support clinicals, equipment acquisition and maintenance.”

The Moss family chose to donate to nursing in honor of John Moss’ mother, who was a nurse. They have been long time supporters of the CMU community and CMU’s performing arts program. In 2002 they contributed to the renovation of the Moss Performing Arts Center. They also sponsor performing arts faculty grants and student scholarships at CMU.

“None of our success would have been possible over the past 87 years without special people like John and Angie Moss,” said CMU President Tim Foster in his press release Monday.

The new sign, “Moss School of Nursing,” is located at the southeast corner of the Maverick Center and can be seen throughout the Health Science building. At the unveiling, speeches were given by President Foster, John Moss and active community member Lena Elliott.

“There were at least 30 nursing students in attendance,” Nunn said. “There were also faculty members from the Health Science Department and the new Department Chair, Deb Bailey.”

The Moss family requested that the donation amount is not made public.

“The nursing program is one of the best in Colorado and we are proud to support these aspiring and inspiring medical professionals,” the Mosses said yesterday in the press release.
