The CMU rodeo team opened its season Friday and Saturday in Cedar City, Utah, competing with other Rocky Mountain Region NIRA teams.

Results for the event were not officially available until yesterday (after the time of publication), but according to coach Brice Berentis, the team did well in barrel racing, goat tying and bull riding.

Freshman Sabrina Walker was called back for the short go in barrel racing and just missed the short go for team roping with partner Hailey Taylor because of an illegal head catch.

“It was definitely a good rodeo,” Walker said. “I was really excited that I made it back to the short go for barrels.”

Freshman Sean Koenig, who kicked off his first ever season of bull riding last weekend, impressed Berentis by being called back for short go.

“We have this weekend off, then another rodeo,” Berentis said, speaking of the Sept. 21-22 event at Utah Valley State University in Pleasant Grove, Utah. “I think we’ll do a lot better there.”
