Montrose’s makeover: Campus renovation debuts

Last Friday CMU’s Montrose campus opened the doors to its newly renovated, state-of-the-art learning center. The campus hosted an open house to show off improvements that were made to the school building that was built in 1935.

“There was a large group of community members who voiced their support of CMU,” Director of Media Relations Dana Nunn said.

At the open house were members of the Montrose City Council and the ASG president Telbe Storbeck.

“It’s beautiful,” Storbeck said. “They did a really great job. They made upgrades to the distance-learning facility that turned out really nice.”

The project added a computer lab, meeting room and secluded areas for studying. Some of the biggest changes were in laboratory spaces. All equipment, light fixtures and furniture were upgraded. The school will continue to offer video conferencing.

“I heard one student from the main campus talking about how great their lab was,” Nunn said. “He said it was as good if not better than the ones on the main campus.”

The Montrose Campus Capital Campaign financially sustained the project and raised about $850,000 toward its goal of $1 million.

“Now with the renovation the campus has great lab space and wonderful classrooms that are up-to-date,” Nunn said. “The work that has been done is just great.”

The campus has been serving students in the Uncompahgre Valley since 1991. It is a satellite campus, has a student body of 330 students and offers eight different programs. The Montrose campus focuses on offering a variety of schedules and course styles that are flexible to busy lifestyles. Most classes are in the evening or late afternoon, and online courses are offered as well.

All are welcome to view the campus renovation. For more information on class schedules and programs, call 249-7009 or contact Donna Justin at djustin@coloradomesa.edu.
