Master Plan: Worship group serves campus

Master Plan club members enjoy "The day at the lake" event held at Highline Lake this past Saturday.

Based on evangelism, leadership development and discipleship, CMU Master Plan is a non-denominational Christian service that has been serving the campus for nearly 19 years. Founded at Ft. Lewis College in Durango in 1985 by Russ and Linda Akins, Master Plan provides bible study, one–on–one discipleship, Tuesday Night Live (TNL) and various other activities and services.

Master Plan now has three separate campuses: Ft. Lewis, CMU and the Auraria campus in Denver, which serves Metro State College, Community College of Denver and University of Colorado – Denver.

Mitch Kostreva and her husband Kyle started the CMU ministry in 1994.

“We looked at a few different colleges and there were some that didn’t have a lot of [Christian services] going on,” Kostreva said. “We looked at schools in Alamosa, Pueblo and Grand Junction, and Grand Junction seemed to be a good fit for our family.”

TNL is the largest service that Master Plan provides. TNL meets every Tuesday night in ACB 110 and is a weekly bible study. Last year, 65-85 people met weekly for TNL.

Master Plan advertises mostly through word of mouth but they also had a booth the first week of school and hang flyers throughout the school.

“For Meet The Freshmen we partner with other ministries on campus,” Kostreva said. “It’s not like a competition between us, it’s more like a cooperation.”

Nichole Schutz has only been involved with TNL and Master Plan for a week.

“Everybody here has been very welcoming,” Schutz said. “No one is being outcasted, it’s nice.”

Junior Amanda Gonzalez was introduced to the group last year and has been a member ever since.

“My roommate last year introduced me to Mitch and Kyle and I’ve been to every event they’ve put on, except the retreats,” Gonzalez said. “I like how they gather a lot of people together and introduce them to different styles.”

Last Saturday Master Plan held a “Day at the Lake” event, where members and guests enjoyed a day of swimming, volleyball and free food. Around 70 people showed up for the event, which was held at Highline Lake.

Master Plan holds various different events throughout the year as well as their regular services. For more information on Master Plan and for a list of events and services or for more information visit www.mytnl.com

“We’re a great group for having fun and also being real about our relationship with God,” Kostreva said.
