Get ‘Mucked Up’

On Sept. 1 many brave 5k competitors will be pumped up and waiting eagerly for their big challenge, the 2012 M.U.D run, which stands for the “Mucked Up Desert“ run.

The race begins at 9 a.m. and will start just north of Walker Field Airport. The annual M.U.D run is a test of endurance and skill unlike any other race. Wind, water, earth and fire are used shrewdly throughout the course to obstruct the path and push participants to the brink. There will be tires, mud, a balance beam and a fire pit.

The event is not just for trained runners and athletes. The M.U.D. run will also include a cognitive test, live music, food, local vendors, and a beer garden. The race is sponsored by CMU, 99.9 KEKB, Sorter Construction and the Grand Junction Fire Department.

“It feels good to be supporting my school and community while getting to participate in such a fun and challenging race,” competitor Jordan Hilkey said.

Registration closes August 31 at 11:59 p.m. The end result of this race may require a band-aid or two, but a complimentary t-shirt and beer are also included.

All benefits go to the Grand Junction Fire Department, the CMU Athletic Scholarship Fund and victims of the Colorado wildfires.
