“We had no game plan,” Domination wide receiver Mackenzie Lewis said. “We just had heart.”

On Sunday, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes held its inaugural Powder Puff football game.

“We got the idea to have a powder puff football tournament when one of our leaders, Reece Stanley, read about when Tim Tebow held a Powder Puff football game when he attended the Florida University,” FCA President Tim Smith said. “Tebow raised something like $15,000 at Florida University.”

FCA is an on-campus group that meets every Monday night to discuss religion and sports. The Powder Puff football tournament raises money for FCA’s activities and camps. Most recently, FCA completely renovated the sand volleyball court between Pinon Hall and the Walnut Ridge apartments.

On Sunday afternoon, six teams of girls showed up at Delta Field to be crowned inaugural FCA Powder Puff football champions.

Maverick football players got in on the action too — Sophomore safety Michael Brady and freshman cornerback Tyler Winder coached teams.

The championship game kicked off at 3:40 in the afternoon. It started to cool off on Delta field as the E-lemon-ators took on the undefeated Domination.

Domination quarterback Mariah Kroschel threw touchdown after touchdown in the first half. Lewis broke up numerous E-lemon-ator passes and had one interception.

The E-lemon-ators scored only one touchdown in the second half as the Domination continued to throw the ball and find success through the air. The Dominators won the inaugural FCA Powder Puff tournament 32-6.

Kroschel and the Domination’s spread no-huddle offense outscored every one of their opponents.

FCA raised over $200 at the tournament.
