Grand Junction’s ‘best kept secret’: Sweet treats at Graff Dairy

Let’s be honest. Who doesn’t love ice cream? If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat there is hands-down no place better than Graff Dairy. Located on 29 Rd, this locally owned and operated dairy has been one of Grand Junction’s best-kept secrets for years. Vanilla and chocolate ice cream is always offered, and each week a flavor of the week is added to the menu. A few flavors include raspberry (the current flavor of the week), banana, mint, orange, strawberry, peach (made with real Palisade peaches), cherry and mocha. Their ice cream is also affordable and moderately priced. A huge plus when it comes to college students.

If you’re in the mood for an ice cream sandwich, milkshake, twister, dillbar, drumstick, float or sundae, Graff Dairy has those as well. Their menu also expands past ice cream. Graff Dairy makes its own milk, cheese, half and half and heavy whipped cream. The store also sells bread, eggs, Pepsi products as well as local honey from Loma. All milk is also free from preservatives and hormones.

Although, sadly, there aren’t any cows at Graff Dairy, possibly the best thing about the dairy is the small-town feel. Cartoon cows and pictures of the employees can be found throughout the walls. The dairy has 10 employees, which include the night shift and morning shift girls and those that do the milking and delivering.

There are very few things that have changed at Graff Dairy since I visited it for the first time about 14 years ago while on a field trip in the second grade. One thing that has changed though, is the new addition of a coffee bar. They now offer coffee options to go with the rest of your dairy needs. A nice cone of mocha ice cream with a nice iced white mocha to drink doesn’t sound like too bad of a combo to me.

If you’re still not fully committed into trying the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted, Graff Dairy now has a credit card machine. Up until a few weeks ago they only accepted checks or cash, but recently they‘ve moved into accommodating all customers.

So the next time you’re craving something sweet take a trip down to 589 29 Rd. Hey, they even have a drive thru. Now there’s literally no excuse for you not to make a trip to Graff Dairy. Tell me a time when you’re not in the mood for ice cream. Yea that’s right, I couldn’t think of one either.
