Darth Vader goes gay

Everywhere you go, you’re going to find gay people. In third world countries, in your favorite bar, in TV, movies, and video games?

In response to the inclusion of characters (which are custom made by the player) having the ability to engage in homosexual or bisexual relationships in the most recent Star Wars game, “The Old Republic,” Electronic Arts, the maker of the game, has received an outpouring of letters from concerned citizens. One typed letter, sent to EA read, “The overwhelming number of players on Star Wars games is children who do not need to be forced as a captured audience to participate in homosexual content.”

With the children in mind, the letter continued, “Please do not include LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) content in Star Wars video games that will impact so many children.”

Before an illegible signature, the words “remember Sodom” were handwritten on the letter.

We really need to be concerned about the children here, folks. God forbid (literally) that we allow our children to be exposed to something they’re going to be inevitably exposed to at some point in their life. Unless we hide them under a rock until we feel comfortable that they won’t be exposed to anything bad.

Of course, we have to remember this game is rated “Teen,” which means that young children shouldn’t be playing it anyway, unless their parents approve. This isn’t about children, this is about bigotry.

A call to action was issued by the Florida Family Association about this content in “The Old Republic,” stating that LGBT activists had persuaded the company to include such content. The FFA’s website is currently plastered with anti-CAIR (Center for American Islamic Relations) rhetoric. As well as warnings about an upcoming overtake of American values by Sharia Law. Sharia Law? Remember “Sodom?” Aside from being a hate group, these people are living in the past.

I was going to go on a tirade about how natural it is that traits of human society end up in most forms of media that humans produce, but I think that Michael Cole-Schwartz, of Human Rights Campaign, said it better than I could in a recent statement.

“As in all media, there remains work to do in order for more people to feel included. This is true for video games and for LGBT people. EA’s step in this instance is indicative of a continuing cultural shift towards greater inclusion.”

Inclusion? What right do LGBT people have to be included in a Star Wars video game? Star Wars, the most down-home, traditional, good-old American Western in Space complete with incest? Star Wars is probably the best example of unusual blends of cultural traits being expressed in media, now custom made characters can be gay like real people? How offensive to good, clean American values.

Human beings create media and reflect themselves in it. Most known aspects of human society are going to be reflected in media at one point or another. If you don’t like certain aspects of human society, then don’t contribute to media that reflects it.
