Lotto History: Three winners, biggest pot

Mega Millions brought the largest lotto jackpot in U.S. history and with it a hustle from patrons all over the nation trying to get some of the prize.

“I stopped at a convenience store in the morning just to get gas, and I had to wait ten minutes because there was so many people in line buying lotto tickets,” Sophomore Jon Moore said. “I guess when there is a possibility you can get $600 million for 10 bucks people want to go for it.”

Businesses, musicians, and other social advertisers were quick to eat up on this cheap marketing gimmick: spend $5 on tickets, snap a photo, and then post it on Facebook saying, “like this picture and if we win so do you!”

Others had a bit more stringent guidelines such as rap musician Bodi who required that fans must like his page, like the picture of the ticket, share the picture of the ticket and vote for him on www.artistsignal.com in order for a chance to share his winnings. Bodi also promised to make a chocolate fondue swimming pool in his backyard if he was the winner of $656 million and everyone who shared the picture was invited to cannonball into it.

The Friday night drawing connected to three winning tickets one in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland making the historical jackpot a mere $218 million after being split. Any social media promises have yet to be fulfilled, but may never be since the winners can forever remain a mystery.
