Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Good job in trying to push your own grossly distorted view of the world onto the students here at Colorado Mesa University. The ignorance and arrogance of the opinion section at the Criterion has officially reached a new height. Are you so uninformed and hidden in your narrow mind that you cannot even consider other points of view, or even facts before you reject them?

Geraldo Rivera was simply pointing out that by Trayvon wearing a baggy hoodie, Geroge Zimmerman thought he looked suspicious. Nothing more. The hyperbole about grandmas and soccer moms used in last weeks’ editorial on the matter is irrelevant and not clever in the least.

It is also hilariously ironic how the author of the editorial completely made the point which Fox tried to emphasize throughout the day, which is that the media is trying to blow this case way out of proportion, and make it into something racist and not present all of the facts.

Rather than actually trying to give an honest description of what is believed to have taken place that night, the editorial tried to sensationalize the event and make it about overall racism and bigger problems in the country. George Zimmerman was believed to be attacked by Trayvon and suffered a broken nose as well as a gash on the back of his head and was not arrested by Florida authorities because it looked as if he shot Trayvon in self-defense. All of the sudden the story isn’t as sexy now is it?

Perhaps you should practice what you preach and quit being so hypocritical. In the editorial there was a list of things on which you should not be biased against, black or white being the first. If only your tolerance extended to those who had different political beliefs than you. On a piece below the editorial was the term “right-wing-nuts”. Rather than create racism and inspire hatred and outrage where it should not exist, maybe you should try and tolerate “the right-wing masses.”

Sincerely,

Colton Vaughan
