Nominate an exceptional student, faculty and/or community member for the 2012 Maverick Awards.

“Not very many people knew about the Mav Awards last year,” CMU senior and ASG senator Con Trumbull said. “I think this year will be more exciting because there are more awards and more people are aware of this event.”

This year’s contest features 17 categories.

The student award categories are: Maverick of the Year, Student Leader of the Year, Club Leader of the Year, Club Member of the Year, Club/Organization of the Year, Student Athlete of the Year, Sports Team of the Year, Student Volunteer of the Year, Student Humanitarian of the Year and the Maverick Peace Prize.

The non-student award categories are: Club/organization Advisor of the Year, Academic Advisor of the Year, Faculty Member of the Year, Staff/Employee Member of the year, Alumni of the Year, Community Business of the year and Community Leader of the Year.

The same individual or group can be nominated for more than one category. Nomination forms can be picked up at the ASG office on the second floor of the University Center or downloaded from MAVzone under the campus announcement tab.

Each form must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation and dropped off at the ASG office, or emailed to ASG President Justin Kawcak at jkawcak@mavs.coloradomesa.edu. The deadline for submissions is April 6.

Submissions will be narrowed down to three finalists per category by the ASG Awards Committee. The finalists will be contacted by April 6. Finalists are required to submit a letter explaining why he or she believes they deserve the nomination(s). They also have the option of including a resume, biography or cover letter. The due date of the letter will be given to the finalists when they are initially contacted.

“If you know anyone who you think deserves this award, nominate them,” senior and 2011 Maverick of the Year award winner Kyle Cooper said. “It will make their day.”

Winners in each category will be recognized at the Maverick Awards Banquet at 2 p.m. May 5 in the University Center Ballroom. Admission is free.
