Authentic Mexican food, drink and experiences at El Tapatio

Tequila lovers, rejoice. El Tapatio offers 90 different types of tequila.

El Tapatio is a Mexican food restaurant with colorful Mexican decorations and Spanish music plays constantly in the background. This makes a visit not only a meal, but an experience.

I decided to try El Tapatio because it’s conveniently close to campus. I overlooked the restaurant in the past because it’s so small that it’s easy to miss.

When I arrived, I immediately received complimentary chips, salsa and a cabbage salad. I couldn’t get enough of the amazing salsa.

El Tapatio has entrees that are usually offered at traditional Mexican food restaurants. They offer enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, chimichangas and more.

I ordered the super burrito for $11.25. It was filled with cheese, rice, chicken, sour cream, pinto beans, tomatoes and guacamole. Not only is the burrito a foot-long, but it is extremely thick. El Tapatio’s super burrito makes Chipotle’s burritos look like a light snack. I’m glad that I split the burrito with someone else. I was completely full after eating just half of it. I think the burrito was a good choice. It tasted like authentic Mexican food.

El Tapatio  serves more alcoholic drinks than tequila. They offer 22 different types of margaritas, local and imported beer, wines, alcoholic coffee drinks, martinis and other mixed drinks. I tried a tropical colada. It was fantastic. If I didn’t have to go anywhere after the meal, I would have had more than one. The drink has vodka, pineapple juice, lime juice and coconut milk.

My order came promptly. However, it may have been because I was about the only person in the restaurant. There’s nothing bad I can say about the service my table received. Two different waiters made sure that we were having a great dining experience.

The menu is affordable to college students. The entrees are about $10-$15. Since the portions are so huge, it’s easy to get two meals off of one plate.

I will definitely eat at this restaurant again in the near future. Not only do I like this restaurant, but many other people do as well. El Tapatio is rated 4.5 out of 5 stars on all of the major online restaurant rating sites. Unlike Los J’s, you don’t have to be drunk to enjoy the food at El Tapatio. El Tapatio is also located in Fruita, Parachute and Delta. Their Grand Junction address is 1145 North Ave. It is open every day for lunch and dinner.
