CMU students have a chance to compete for the title of Mr. or Ms. CMU. The pageant will take place at 7 p.m. April 12 in the University Center Ballroom.

Public Relations Club officers started the pageant last year to promote school spirit and to bring more awareness to their newly formed club.

This year’s contest features three categories: talent, best dressed and question & answer. Students who enter must participate in all categories.

Three students and three staff members will judge the competition. The audience will vote if there is a tie.

Participants must fill out an application. Applications are to be picked up and dropped off at the information desk on the first floor of the University Center. The deadline for submissions is March 9. There is no entry fee.

Students and non-students are welcome to watch the pageant. There will be a $2 fee at the door.

The prizes for the winners are yet to be determined.

“The pageant is going to be a lot of fun,” PR Club President Ashley Foley said. “We hope that Mr. and Mrs. CMU becomes an annual tradition.”

PR Club has about nine members and welcomes interested students. A free recruitment pizza party will be at 6:30 p.m. March 27 in room 313 in the Fine Arts Building. All students who have an interest in public relations or advertising are invited.

“The PR club offers practical experience and networking opportunities for students interested in public relations,” PR Club Vice President Katie Schultz said. “We started this club because there wasn’t anything like it already on campus.”
