‘Act of Valor’ invokes a sense of patriotism and appreciation

“Act of Valor?” More like Act of Bad-Assery.

Two weeks ago, “Act of Valor” opened in theaters and a few friends from the football team and I headed out to see it. We got to Canyon View Cinema to find about half the team already there.  Just seeing the trailers would make it pretty easy to understand why a bunch of college football players would want to go see the film. Hell, this film is a must see for almost any guy.

“Act of Valor” is an action packed film that had my and quite a few other player’s hearts racing in anticipation, and even a few of us near tears (not me of course though…).

The film’s website describes the movie as “an unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original film making.”
The website’s description fits the bill. This movie is unlike anything I have ever seen. The film’s cast features active duty U.S. Navy SEALS while it recounts fictional versions of real life Navy SEAL operations. The names of the actual SEALS that took place in the real operation have been kept a secret to protect their identity, as they continue to serve actively.

The movie follows a band of elite Navy SEALS as they go on a rescue mission of an undercover CIA agent that is on the verge of uncovering the plans of two anti-American Middle East terrorists. These guys mean business and seriously hate Americans. While I will not reveal what it is that the ultimate bad guys build to bring America to its knees, the sheer thought of it will make you regret everything negative you have ever said about all the security at airports.

And it’s not just scary weapons or big guns that will freak you out. It’s how real the movie is, how it is shot, put together, everything is unlike any other action movie I have ever seen. I found myself believing all of what was going on, and genuinely being concerned about it, before reminding myself that it was only a movie.

At the end of the movie other players and I got up, and basically felt like idiots for complaining about the upcoming two straight weeks of 6 a.m. workouts. Beside the physical toll, the movie is an amazing insight into the lives of U.S. service men and women at home, and away. The movie is a testament to the fact that we live in the best country in the world, and we, as a country, owe so much to the men and women that defend us and our freedoms.

I loved Act of Valor, I’d highly recommend that everyone see it. It carries emotional weight, tells a story and really puts things into perspective.

All I have to say is, America.
