Seat selection at Suplizio: Rockies place ticket holders

On Sunday, seat selection for Grand Junction Rockies season ticket holders was held at the Two Rivers Convention Center.

“With a brand new ball club and stadium renovations, season ticket holders haven’t had the opportunity to choose their seats yet,” Rockies GM Tim Ray said. “They have priority numbers. As people have bought their season tickets since mid to late October they have been given a priority number. Due to construction going on at the stadium, we can’t physically take ticket buyers out to the stadium to pick out seats. So we have brought the stadium to them.”

Inside the ballroom at Two Rivers Convention Center, there was a large diagram of Suplizio Field with detailed seating layouts, so season ticket holders picked their seats for the inaugural Grand Junction Rockies season.

“I think our ownership made a wise decision coming to Grand Junction,” Ray said. “They looked at the population of Mesa County, considered the fact that this is a baseball town with the history of [Junior College World Series], a very strong division two program at Mesa, and the high schools in the area playing baseball.”

The fact that that Suplizio Field is going through huge renovations also was a big pull for the Rockies.

“The opportunity to extend the Rockies brand to the Western Slope was also a big part.” Ray said.

The Grand Junction Rockies are a Rookie League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Fans can expect to see big names once in a while at Suplizio.

“Two years ago, we had Todd Helton playing with us for three days when the team was in Casper,” Ray said. “This team is also where players rehabbing from injuries come.”

The Grand Junction Rockies will open up their season on June 23 against Idaho Falls.
