The CMU Board of Trustees recently appointed two new trustees: Joan Ringel and Paula Herzmark.

Since 1979, Ringel has made a career of being involved in public policy. She has lived in Denver for 36 years and has worked with the Colorado Judicial Performance Commission conducting research and working with media relations. Her role as a trustee is to help with problems in funding and legislature. She will work closely with ASG to ensure proper policy is being followed at CMU.

“I have been impressed by students and faculty,” Ringel said. “They are warm and welcoming and everyone has a real commitment to the university.”

Also from Denver, Paula Herzmark has spent the last 20 years serving on hospital boards. Herzmark is a Commissioner on the Denver Water Board.

Within the last year, the agenda for trustees has been focused on working to improve graduation rates, retaining those students so they can graduate, and conducting housing studies.

Ringel said the most current issue being discussed in meetings is the SB-15, the bill that would allow the children of illegal immigrants entering college to receive a break on out of state tuition costs currently being administered.

Trustees help govern CMU in finance, academics, curriculum and mission. For more information on the Board of Trustees, visit www.coloradomesa.edu/trustees/index.html.
