Instead of the songs and dances expected in a traditional flash mob, the CMU Forensics Team has chosen to demonstrate their talents in a performance at 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in the University Center’s Bookcliff Cafe.

“This is our first shot at a flash mob officially,” coach Mike Moran said. “We did one on Wednesday at the activities fair. Since there was such little attendance upstairs, one of our co-captains went downstairs to do a flash mob to bring some attention upstairs.”

The team consists of eight active students who participate in a variety of events including prose interpretation, poetry interpretation, after dinner speaking, impromptu speaking, extemporaneous speaking and debate.

More students will participate in the flash mob with a combination of performances similar to their competitions.

“The upcoming flash mob is showing that CMU has a team, but we’re not just about debating and speaking,” team co-captain Brian Casaus said. “It’s going to be a team effort showing other skills that happen on the team, formally knows as the Speech and Debate Team, and it will be for recruiting purposes.”

Due to students’ personal and academic schedules, they will perform off and on throughout the set two-hour time period.

The team recently competed in the Flatland Fiesta Swing Tournament at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Casaus and Vice President Heidi Holzbauer, Treasurer Michael McClure and Victor Kellnhofer all competed in individual events. The team is now preparing for the Western State Forensics Tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico Feb. 17-19.

The Forensics team is open to anyone, regardless of major. For more information, stop by the Bookcliff Café to watch the flash mob, or contact Moran at 248-1387 or mmoran@coloradomesa.edu.
