Grand Junction hosted the first ever Winter Womp at Mesa Theater downtown. On Saturday, Jan. 28 The event involved artists from all over Colorado, coming together for a show unlike any this town has ever seen.

Headlining the event was the popular J.Wail from Denver. J.Wail has performed at many DJ festivals, gone on national tours and even recorded with the likes of Chuck Morris, the percussionist in the electronic sensation that is Lotus. Leading up to the main events however, the crowd certainly had plenty to keep themselves dancing. Opening the show was Funk10 and then at just 10 p.m. local DJ Chris Epic took the stage for a wild showdown of booming bass.

“I am really glad I saw the flyer outside of the Mesa Theater. I have not been to many electronic shows, but I had heard of Chris Epic and thought he was the best set the of the night,” local music enthusiast Jeff Loveland said.

Following Epic was DJ Evenflo, one of the leading female DJs in the Denver-Boulder area, who set a new tone for the night with her blue wig and dress lit with flashing colors. The Winter Womp show then gave the stage to the famous Daytona Velasquez before J.Wail finally took the crowd into the early hours of the morning.

“I loved the crowd involvement that all of the Djs had, it felt like they were having as much fun as we were,” Loveland said.

The show was offered to anyone 16 and up in Grand Junction. DJs started the excitement at 9 p.m. and fans were still cheering on the performers until 2 a.m. For more information on upcoming local shows visit www.mesatheater.com.
