If you’re looking for career opportunities, help is available at Career Services, which is currently located on the first floor of Lowell Heiny Hall.

Career Services will soon move in with the MAVcard Office in the University Center. The remodel began during winter break, adding more counter space and doors for these two offices to become adjoining departments.

“It’s a department that [CMU] is trying to grow,” Coordinator of University Center Operations Kathryn McMillan said. “I think it will be helpful for students to find Career Services and also have access to any information about possible job careers.”

The new Career Services office will be complete with a fully furnished waiting room, and TVs to display career opportunities and other relevant information.

President Tim Foster said the move to the University Center will make the Career Services more accessible to students.

Although the two departments have yet to cross paths, both offer valuable information to students. Career Services provides resources and personal guidance for students working towards their career goals. They provide workshops, job fairs and on-campus employer visits to encourage students and help them on their career paths. They also help employers make connections on campus to build potential working relationships.

Along with issuing new MAVcards to students, the MAVcard Office offers commuter meal plans for students who live off campus, as well as MAVmoney and flex money deposits, which can also be done online through the CMU website.

“MAVmoney can be used anywhere on campus and you don’t pay any tax with it, so you are essentially saving 7.65 percent on food,” McMillan said.

The MAVcard Office still encourages students to exchange their old MAVcards for new ones, which can be done at any time through the end of the semester. The new CMU cards have already been printed, and it only takes a few minutes to exchange your old card. In the fall, everyone will be required to have the new MAVcard.

Career Services is still located in Lowell Heiny Hall, but the move is in progress and is expected to be complete within the next few months.
