On Nov. 26, the CMU Alumni Association will host its fifth annual Mavs at the Avs event held at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

This year the Mavs will take on Metro State at 2 p.m. before the Avalanche battle the Edmonton Oilers at 5 p.m. Directly after the game all CMU guests will be allowed on the ice to go skating, take pictures and play broomball.

The event will be held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Although the timing of the event could have served as a deterrent to fans, Director of Alumni Relations Rick Adleman has been pleased with the event’s turnout. According to Adleman the first event brought in over 400 people, and although the number of attendees has decreased, there has continued to be a strong turnout.

“I would love to see students there,” defense coach Cody Cooper said. “It’d be great if our guys on the team could see some school spirit.”

Cooper has played with the hockey team at the Pepsi Center twice, but this will be his first year there as a coach.

“It’s something that you really don’t ever forget really,” he said.

Not only is the event memorable for the players, Adleman said the event is also great for both alumni and their families, as well as students.

“This year the Avalanche worked out a deal for the hockey players to sell tickets at a discount but still raise money for their team,” said Adleman.

Adleman is also expecting a larger student turnout this year, in part of the discounted tickets available to students.

Tickets packages for alumni are $45 for upper level seats, and $75 for club seats. Packages include tickets to both games, as well as a dinner. Packages for students include tickets to both games, and are $30 for upper level seats, and $60 for lower level seats. Student tickets can be purchased at cmumavericks.com.
