ISA coordinates clothing drive, helps needy during holiday season

The International Student Association is giving thanks to campus and the community by hosting a clothing drive through Nov. 29.

Club president Michele Brouillette and about 10 other club members are coordinating the event.

“We want to help anyone who needs anything before Thanksgiving such as warm clothes for families towards the end of the month,” Brouillette said.

Donations can be dropped off in boxes located in all classroom buildings, the library and University Center. All donations go to Grand Valley Catholic Outreach.

ISA recently finished collecting canned and nonperishable food items as part of the drive, which they will donate to the Catholic Outreach.

The local Catholic Outreach is an organization of more than 500 volunteers that offers emergency services for those in need. Their many services include a soup kitchen, helping people find affordable housing, job search support, energy bill assistance and book donations. They will also open a shelter for homeless veterans next month.

The International Student Association assists international students in meeting new friends, and provides an opportunity for people of different cultures to interact. They help students adjust to life in Colorado and the campus.

Their motto is: “To promote respect and understanding of other cultures and lifestyles on campus and in the community.”
