“Immortals” proves itself to be this year’s perfect action/adventure movie

I didn’t think I was going to love this film as much as I did. I was anticipating what I got out of “300” (being from the same production company) but I got a lot more from “Immortals.”
This film is pure indulgence. The visuals (I saw it in 3D) were spectacular. CGI was well-used but not overdone. The creative aspect of some of the locations and virtual “sets” was unbelievable. The fact that very few shots in this film were shot in real locations is completely acceptable due to the creativity and narrative skill that went into creating each “location.” This film expounds on the slow motion and wildly acrobatic fight scenes of “300.” The otherworldly is allowed to come forth as it was not in “300.” While the fight scenes involving men are extremely well done, when the gods and Titans join the fight, this film shines with inhuman strength.
This film also takes the writing and acting style of “300” and perfects it. Long winded speeches fill the movie, but without the macho cheesy goodness we slurped up in “300.”
The story, also based on Greek mythology, is complex and emotional. The film documents the inhuman acts of King Hyperion as he slaughters people. With almost non-stop killing, the story is as much about the hardship of losing loved ones as it is about the valor of victory over seemingly unstoppable evil.
Aside from having awesome visuals and storyline, this film sounds amazing. Bones cracking, swords stabbing, godly thunder, everything sounds great. The sound work in conjunction with the 3D is why I highly recommend you see this in theaters. You’d need quite a home setup to do this film the justice that the big screen does.
Avoid this film if you are squeamish. Aside from brutal, bloody, constant fight scenes, this film contains a fair amount of torture and human mutilation. There are some seriously disturbing scenes.
