On Oct. 4, the CMU softball and wrestling teams faced off in their annual charity fast-pitch softball game at Bergman Field. The softball team defeated the wrestling team, 7-6.
The softball team was collecting medical supplies for the Good Samaritan Free Medical Clinic. The clinic provides free health care to the impoverished. Acceptable donations included but were not limited to: diapers, baby formula, gauze, hand sanitizer, orthopedic supplies, Band-Aids, crutches, wheelchairs, used glasses, or any other medical supplies.
The Good Samaritan Free Medical Clinic is affiliated with the Downtown Vineyard Church in Grand Junction. Locations change from month to month until a facility can be provided. Clinic locations can be found at http://goodsamaritanfreemedicalclinic.webs.com.
The softball team jumped to an early lead, ending the first inning with four runs. By the top of the third inning, softball had put another run on the board, but wrestling took away a shut out scoring one making the score 5-1.
Half way through the game, the wrestlers added three to the scoreboard, cutting the girls’ lead to one run heading into the fifth inning 5-4.
In the seventh inning, the wrestlers were able to put two men on base, but the Maverick softball team was able to hold off the wrestlers offense and hang on to the lead to defeat the wrestlers 7-6.
