Kunikos is cheap, charming

As a college student, it’s hard to find good sushi that doesn’t break the bank. Kunikos Teriyaki is the solution to that problem. Although it looks like a tiny hole-in-the-wall, placed right in between Blockbuster and College Liquors, the food outperforms the competition so much so that the atmosphere is not even important. Though the environment at Kunikos is not very appealing, this restaurant manages to maintain a very charming and homely Japanese ambiance.
The sushi is the best in town. Being a huge fan of sushi, I have eaten at almost all the sushi joints in town including the hole-in-the-walls. Kunikos is the absolute best. They have a wide variety of sushi without being overwhelming, and offer nigri options as well. The creativity of some of these rolls are quite impressive in themselves, such as the Dragon roll, Samurai roll, Iguana Roll, and many more. I would personally recommend the yellow tail tempura roll (yellow tail tempura with cucumber wrapped with rice & seaweed), or salmon nigri (served on a bed of rice), but honestly, they are all delicious.
Not a sushi fan? Not a problem. They offer a wide selection of other Japanese and Teriyaki dishes varying from teriyaki combinations to yakisoba to soba soup and many more. The portions are a college student’s dream. A single serving will feed you for two meals and is usually around $8, for both sushi and non-sushi dishes. The only downside of Kuniko’s is that like most other Asian restaurants in town, they are closed on Sundays.
