Homecoming: Anchors Aweigh


This year’s homecoming theme is “Anchors Aweigh.”
“This theme was chosen because it symbolizes an ocean of progress and opportunity,” Program Activities Council chair Patience Kanda said. “It’s a good theme because we are moving forward as a university.”
At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, “The Hangover Part 2” will be showing in the University Center Ballroom.
On Wednesday, the Maroon Beach Party will be held at Whiskey River. Students 18 and older are able to attend with no cover charge.
“Smoke on the Mountains” is CMU’s first musical of the semester. It will premiere at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and will be shown at the same time on Friday.
According to Director of Student Life Breanne Meier, the foam party was the most popular event last year. It takes place at 9 p.m. on Thursday at Delta Field.
On Friday, students are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing maroon and white for Mav Spirit Day.
At 6:30 p.m. is the Student Carnival, which will be held in the Elm Avenue Quad. The carnival will feature a car bash, water pong, a mechanical bull, darts and themed pictures.
At 5:30 p.m., the awards banquet will recognize individuals who make contributions to the community and who are leaders in their career field.
The bonfire will take place at 9:30 p.m., which will be held in the Elm Avenue Quad. Participating students will see a replica of CMU’s homecoming rival Western New Mexico University’s mascot being torched.
Before the homecoming football game on Saturday, there will be a tailgate party featuring food, drinks and live music in the Stoker Stadium parking lot starting at 10:30 a.m. The game begins at 1 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.
The women’s soccer game against Fort Lewis will end homecoming week. The game begins at 1 p.m. at Walker Field.
