On Thursday, Mav Scholars and honors students were at the second floor of the University Center not only to enjoy some ice cream and enter to win an iPod Touch, but also to meet heads of all the academic departments, representatives from the honors program, and coordinators from the International Exchange Program.
Senior Carl Nesbit, a mathematics major has been a part of Mav Scholars his entire college career. He has seen the program grow and develop since his first year.
“There are a lot more chances to network with people who will someday become prominent figures in the community,” Nesbit said. “You’ll meet people of all disciplines.”
A little over 300 students were invited to the social, which was a significantly larger number than in the past.
“With more incoming freshman, there have been more students admitted into the Mav Scholars program,” Program Coordinator Erin Rooks said.
With numerous staff members involved in the program, one person who has witnessed the Mav Scholar program develop over the years is Assistant Director of Academic Honors Dr. Luis Lopez. He said he has never regretted his job, just as Mav Scholars has never regretted working hard. Both can attest that accomplishment through diligence is a reward within itself.
