Wacky Olympics

Three years ago, they were in Beijing. Next year, they’ll be in London. This year, the Olympics are coming to Colorado Mesa University, but this time they’ll be “wacky.”
The Resident Hall Association’s Wacky Olympics will take place from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 on the Elm Quad.
According to RHA Vice President Elizabeth Reimer, the event is a great way to “come out and meet people, have fun, get messy, and earn Battle of the Buildings points for your residence hall.”
At the end of each year, residence halls duke it out in Battle of the Buildings for prizes and a year’s worth of bragging rights for being the toughest and most skilled hall on campus.
The Wacky Olympics will have “lots of messy fun events,” Reimer said.
Among the options to get down and dirty are Oatmeal Slip ‘n’ Slide races, Banana Relays, the Condiment Twister, Shaving Cream Tug of War and shot put and discus with food.
Ideas for the Wacky Olympics have been in the works since the week before school, with official planning starting a month ago. The RHA budget assigned through the Residence Life office will fund the event.
“The event’s main focus is on meeting new people,” Reimer said. “So as long as people show up, they get points toward their hall.”
RHA keeps track of Battle of the Building points throughout the year and the winner is announced at the end. But the Wacky Olympics isn’t a battle between halls.
“Anyone can compete against anyone just for fun,” Reimer said.
