On Saturday night the University Center Ballroom shook as The Cab performed for Colorado Mesa University students and other members of the Grand Junction community. The band left an impression on the crowd with their loud and energetic 45 minute set.
The Programming Activities Council, Residence Hall Association, and KMSA devoted their time and resources to pull off the concert in a matter of days. The show was packed with an estimated 400 people, the best turnout for a CMU event this year.
“We had four days to publicize the show and started putting up flyers on Wednesday,” KMSA General Manager Kyle Cooper said. “We had posters up in every window on Main Street.”
The concert was open to all ages and advertised in both The Daily Sentinel and high schools around Grand Junction. After less than a week of planning the event was a success.
“We were pleasantly surprised with how well the show went,” Cooper said.
The Cab is a pop-alternative band that was started in Las Vegas in 2006 by Alex DeLeon, who is now the lead singer, and Cash Colligan, who is now in the band “Play for Keeps.” The two found a drummer, wrote songs, and began performing. In 2007 The Cab headlined at the House of Blues and by their senior year they were signed by the label Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Records. Since then they have been touring.
“This was their favorite stop on the tour,” Cooper said. “They have already been to Butler in Indiana and the New York State Fair, but the turnout was not as big.”
Alex DeLeon, Alex Marshall and Joey Thunder are now the core of the band. Recently they have played in Warped Tour and ranked high on iTunes. Over the last week the band hit over 1,600 downloads on one single. The Cab is now independent and has released two full length albums.
