PAC makes CMU home away from home; Welcome Week kicks off school year

School is now in session and Colorado Mesa University understands just how nerve wracking starting the school year can be. The Programming Activities Council has arranged “Welcome Week”, to greet returning students and make new students feel at home as the year begins.

“Welcome Week is a great transition from summer fun to school fun,” PAC chair Patience Kanda said.

This gives students a chance to meet new people and loosen up.

Every day of the week a new activity took place on campus, all of a which were free and open to all students. CMU kicked the week off with Ripley’s Believe It or Not mentalist and mind reader Craig Karges.

“Everyone was great to work with,” Karges said, “I had a lot of fun and great volunteers from the audience.”

The magic act was followed by a Jersey Shore event at Delta Field Tuesday. CMU hosted contests and gave out free Jersey Shore t-shirts.

Wednesday started off with Minute To Win It, held at Delta Field. This is a game where the player must beat a 60 second clock while trying to perform a task with nothing but household items. Students scrambled to finish each challenge and those who were quick enough received a prize. This event was followed by a night inspired by the hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance.” Students were invited to Whiskey River. Up until 11 p.m., all of the proceeds collected from CMU students went towards fundraising for the school.

Thursday was “Wipeout Day” at Delta Field. It was a carnival-like event with inflatables, bandanas, and a free photo booth. This was a time for students to meet new people.

A “Lost” theme highlighted the annual pool party at Lincoln Park Pool Friday. Saturday night brought the Pay-Per-View to you with UFC Night. UFC fights were shown on the big screen in the University Center game room for free.
