Red Mango: a healthy choice

With over 100 locations throughout the United States, and only four in Colorado, Red Mango is opening up shop at 536 Rimrock Ave. in Grand Junction.
Red Mango provides a variety of fresh, all-natural frozen yogurt and smoothies. The name stems from the mango’s optimal stage of ripeness, and explains the company’s mission to provide the freshest product to their customers.
Owner Mandey Murray decided to take part in the rapidly growing franchise when she and her husband first ate at a yogurt shop in New York. Not long after, they tried the yogurt at a Red Mango location in Utah, which Murray thought was even better.
“You can tell that the yogurt was more refreshing and had more health benefits compared to other yogurts,” Murray said.
The Grand Junction store will have a soft opening on Tuesday, May 3, but will have their official grand opening on June 5. They plan to offer a 10 percent discount to students when they show their MavCard.
Aside from yogurt, Red Mango will also serve authentic smoothies, teas and parfaits.
They have five machines that each have two flavors. Customers will be able to serve themselves with single flavors or swirl two flavors together.
Once they have their desired bowl size and flavors, customers will move on to a toppings bar to top off their yogurt with their choice of fresh fruit, granola, among other toppings.
“When you eat ice cream you feel weighed down,” Murray said, “but when eating Red Mango yogurt you feel refreshed after eating.”
Murray invites students to attend their soft opening on Tuesday.
“I think our community is such a healthy community that it will go over well,” Murray said.
