The Cultural Diversity Board’s “Unity Fest” will take place April 13 – 16 in various places throughout campus.
This four-day event is free to students and is intended to raise awareness for various diversity clubs.
Participating in this year’s “Unity Fest” are the Black Student Alliance, Gay Straight Alliance, International Student Association, La Raza, Native American Student Council and Ho’olokahi Polynesian Club.
The students will display the essence and cultural aspects of their clubs by sharing stories, providing activities and showcasing art and crafts. “It’s all for the students,” CDB Director Cassidee Shull said. “Our whole goal is to get more awareness because a lot of people don’t know we’re here.”
CDB will have plenty of games and activities provided by the diversity clubs on campus.
The Native American students will be making dream catchers and beadwork. Students can send another student plunging into a dunk tank of water, courtesy of the Gay Straight Alliance.
Thursday kicks off the Taste  Unity, which features cultural foods brought by the diversity clubs for students to taste and experience.
Each club is required to perform or host an activity on Friday for other students to take part in. One such performance is the Native American Student Council’s performance of a tribal bear dance.
To complete the evening, the Kingsley Six, a group of four drag queens will perform in the College Center ballroom.
“Last year we didn’t have the best weather,” Shull said. “It was really cold and rainy, but this year we’re hoping for a really big turnout. We’re ordering hundreds of items to give away.”
To learn more about the CDB clubs, join in the festivities of “Unity Fest” or visit the CDB office on the second floor of the College Center.
