Shedding light on Zoogma

With abstract sounds and trance-like vibes the musical sensation called Zoogma will keep listeners yearning for more. By combining keyboard sounds and electric guitar riffs, Zoogma will not disappoint. The band consisting of five members came from Oxford, Miss.

Yet,they have a worldly concept to their music. Combining the art of DJing with the beauty of a rock band performance, Zoogma appeals to many different crowds. With mostly instrumental songs and limited lyrics this band shows many positive aspects that listeners will enjoy.

With a sound very similar to Pretty Lights but with more of a guitar/rock feel like STS9, Zoogma intrigues my ears to continue listening. One of my favorite aspects of their music is how little they use repetition. There’s no chorus that plays over and over or same guitar riff playing throughout the whole song. The originality of their music is so unique it’s easy to separate their sounds from everything else on the Internet. Also the abstract transitions and drops will keep listeners tuned in.

Zoogma’s official website, Zoogma.net, is an easily accessible site where viewers can listen to and even download their music for free. This website also shows when and where all there next events are. It’s very rare to find a band with such resources connected to it in one area. The website also lets you buy merchandise and contact the band.

Recently Zoogma came out with a new CD called “Recreational Vehicles” which consisted of eight unique and original songs. Now that’s not many songs for a CD to have, but each song is five to about eight minutes of quality music. Every song on this CD had me guessing the next note, leaving me constantly in a state of surprise. Not only is it a quality sound, the cover art was intriguing as well. It is a colorful face made out of wisps and butterfly wings protruding out of a women’s arms. The best thing about this CD is that it is being given out for free on their website so everything about Recreational Vehicles is amazing, definitely a 1ten out of ten.

After a little research I noticed that in the beginning of Zoogma’s career, in 2005, they had a more trance guitar feel. However, over the years the group has grown trippier and added many more sounds to their music. I find the new Zoogma much more likeable but I believe that’s because it appeals more to today’s crowd. That crowd is very advanced and needs a lot of interaction to catch their attention. In order tp meet the needs of this crowd they used the pace of their songs and the use of electronics to raise significantly in the past five years.

Another great aspect of this band is their live performances. Most shows are done in small venues where you are up close and personal with the band. The performances feature a variety of visual sensations from light shows to showgirls dancing with rainbow colored glowing hula-hoops. Other performances had beautiful and colorful stained glass in the background that was illuminated, one was an intricate rose that was blossoming. In the past year Zoogma preformed at a very famous and large three-day event called Wakarusa in Ozark, Arkansas which tickets were sold out for.

The band hasn’t been around for too long but has made some amazing improvements since they’ve began. I am not too impressed with their work before 2009, but their recent CD has blown my mind. The band has very promising sounds and performances, and I think they will blow up and become really big within the next year or two.

Overall Zoogma’s a great band with a very chill, upbeat sound that will keep me listening until their next CD. They are not on iTunes to purchase, which I think is a good thing because they haven’t sold out yet, but if they were I would still pay the $1.29 for songs. I recommend stopping by the website and snagging a free copy of there CD to brighten up your day. There is nothing to lose.
