CDB seeking students to fill open positions

Finding a job right now is hard enough for college students looking for a part-time position. There are several campus jobs available at the beginning of the year, which can be hard to come by.
However, there are currently a few positions yet to be filled within the Cultural Diversity Board.
“Even though schedules change and we see some turnover with these positions, we have seen many students who have started as a vice president and moved their way up into an executive position,” Graduating senior and Director of CDB, Cassidee Shull said. “We like to keep consistency within the board, which in return will help us increase productivity, education, and awareness.”
One of the positions currently available is Communications Manager. This is open to students of junior status with at least a 2.5 GPA and are in good standing. The other two club positions are open to sophomore students, with a GPA of 2.3 or higher.
Cultural Diversity Board is the umbrella organization for all of the cultural clubs on campus. It consists of an executive board, which has a director, assistant director, and communications manager. These three positions oversee the six cultural clubs on campus, which include the Black Student Alliance, Gay Straight Alliance, International Student Association, Native American Student Council, La Raza and Ho’olokahi Polynesian Club. Each club has a president and a vice president, and currently the Ho’olokahi Polynesian Club and Black Student Alliance both have vice president positions open to students.
All positions are paid, and are great for students who may have a heavier work load for school, but would like to hold a job and earn a little money. Once assigned to a position, CDB requires at least five hours wrking any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the office on assigned club duties. Hours are flexible, and it’s great experience for anyone, regardless of major and ethnicity.
Positions are usually filled at the beginning of the year, but CDB is still looking for three individuals to join the board, especially for their upcoming Unity Fest. The festival is an event put on by all the clubs to raise awareness for their cause.
Unity Fest will be hosted April 13-16. CDB encourages all students to attend and become more knowledgeable about what these cultural clubs have to offer. The event is free and CDB hopes to see an increase in turnout from last year, and hopefully see a few new faces around the offices in future years.
At the end of the year, all positions open up to new students who would like to apply and join the CDB team. All of the student clubs and organizations have been struggling to reach out to students on campus, to inform and make many aware these positions are still open and looking to be filled. Even though a few openings remain, the CDB team has been doing their best to make up for the lack of staff, and hopes to see a full team next semester.
If you are interested in joining the CDB, drop off a resume, a copy of your transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a brief essay on why you feel diversity is important on campus. Contact Shull at cshull@mesastate.edu, or stop by the CDB office, located on the second floor of the College Center.
